Troubleshooting

Sometimes, things don't go according to plan. But every problem is an opportunity in disguise! So lets get it fixed!
Not An Issue
In my experience of 5+ years modding and dealing with troubleshooting, about 98% of issues are not actually issues at all! We´ve been tricked!
These can generally be split into two categories-
- Not updating the game and (more often) the mod and its files. The correct procedure for updating the mod, if you want to have the greatest chance of avoiding trouble, is to simply delete everything of mine and redownload the Dropbox folder. By all means, update only the relevant files by hand if you are confident in doing so, but this increases the chances of keeping old, conflicting files, which can result in issues such as trouble finding the SOS Card ingame or seeing "..." instead of interaction text.
- Misunderstanding of how things work or incorrect assumptions. This is why I have decided to make this new wiki. If you cant find info about what you need to know- let me know.
Actually An Issue?
Sometimes, mods don't play nice with one another. I try to build DoS to be as independent and non conflicting as possible, but sometimes a conflict is unavoidable. Before panicking that something actually broke, try taking out all other mods from your mod folder temporarily, except for DoS and its components and Wicked Whims. Now load into your game and see if the issue is no longer present. If that is the case, it can not only be a mod conflict (less likely) but also an outdated other mod (much more likely). See, now you know what to do- the 50:50 method.
Simply keep the working base and start adding batches of mods back in, loading into the game and seeing if the issue has returned. Once the issue comes back, you know that the batch you just put in contains the mod at fault. Repeat until you can pinpoint which package is messing things up. Time consuming, but also very effective.
Definitely An Issue!
The absolute best way to contact me about resolving it is my Discord, which all of my Patrons get access to. This way is preferable as we can easily share screenshots and quickly message back and forth. The second place are my Patreon direct messages, if for whatever reason you cannot use Discord. Keep in mind that we wont be able to share screenshots and the messenger is shoddy in general. The last place to contact me is leaving a comment on the latest Patreon post. And by last place I really mean last place, don't do it unless you don't have any other alternative, as I don't troubleshoot in comments.
Do not report issues on LoversLab. I visit it roughly once a month and I only treat it as what it is- an archive of my pre-DoS mods.
How To Actually Report An Issue
In short, try to get into my shoes and see if you are sending me enough information to replicate the issue in my game.
- Be exhaustive when it comes to detail.
- Be specific when it comes to objects and interactions (and their names).
- Be clear about your expectations of what should be happening.
- Describe what is actually happening.
- Report both your game version and your DoS version.
- If you have any Last Exception logs or Better Exceptions reports, send them to me.
And with that, I will do my utmost to help you. But lets hope
